Forsyth Farmers’ Market is more than a market. We know that the industrial food system does not offer equal access to fresh and healthy foods. So, we work to grow an equitable food system that improves access to healthy, fresh, culturally relevant foods for those who have been marginalized through a mobile farmers’ market, nutrition education, and doubling SNAP benefits. By increasing food access, promoting healthy eating, and partnering with local health centers and other organizations, FFM works to reduce health disparities and diet-related chronic disease and improve wellbeing in our community.
Further, FFM strives for a local food system in which our local farmers are supported and valued and are able to diversify their sales in communities that they otherwise might not have access to. We generate spaces in which producers and consumers can connect directly.
Access to healthy food should be a right and not a privilege, and the health of our community and the wellbeing of our farmers should coincide, leading to a more sustainable and equitable local food system.

NLAWS PRODUCE was created in 2003 to fill a need not being met in Savannah, QUALITY CUSTOMER SERVICE. Our founders, Jay Epstein & Steve Kaplan, wanted to build a produce company that focused on keeping folks happy. These two in-laws, hence the name, had worked in the produce industry for decades at all levels. With years of experience, the NLAWS created their own company for the Savannah area.
From the beginning, our customers saw NLAWS really did care about their business. With emergency deliveries late into the night, and sourcing produce not yet seen in the Savannah area, our company quickly became known for going that little bit further than the competition. More customers put faith in us, and we grew to serve Hilton Head and Bluffton, South Carolina as well.
In 2005 we added two sales representatives with extensive kitchen experience. Who better to sell to cooks & chefs than cooks & chefs. Soon afterwards we adopted a sales mantra still in use today, COOKS HELPING COOKS. Since then we have added two more chefs to our sales staff, with much success.
From one used rental truck and a small walk-in cooler, to a fleet of 10 new custom delivery vehicles and 50,000+ square feet of refrigerated warehouse. NLAWS PRODUCE has come a long way in a short time. We contribute our growth to the hardworking staff we have been blessed with & our loyal customers that continue to buy local.

In July 2008 Papa’s moved to the current location to expand our restaurant to 4,000 sq. ft. with 125 seats and a full bar. We would like to thank our family, friends, and loyal customers for all the years of patronage and we hope to provide our quality food and service for many more to come.

Candy makes us happy, and even more so when we see the joy visiting one of our stores brings to our guests. Coming here is like a momentary flash back in time to a simpler day where you can let your worries fall by the wayside. Lose yourself amidst the wonderful aroma of fresh Pralines, gooey caramel and candy apples, or sweet salt water taffy. It’s pure happiness to experience, and we are proud to be able to be a part of it!
Brief History: Back in 1973, young Tim Strickland was at the Atlanta Gift Market trade show with his big sister Jennifer and their parents, Stan and Pam. The family was at the show hoping to find some items for The Cotton Bale, their gift shop back home on historic River Street in Savannah, Georgia. Tim, who could be quite insistent in spite of his tender age of eleven, stumbled upon a fudge pot and begged his parents to put it in the store. His parents finally agreed, and, a week later, on St. Patrick’s Day, Jennifer made the first batch of chocolate mint fudge. The fudge sold like crazy, and it soon became obvious that candy was much more popular than knick-knacks and Christmas ornaments. Six months later, River Street Sweets became a full-fledged candy store.
Almost immediately, the most popular treats were their World Famous Pralines®, hand-dipped onto a piece of marble Stan bought from a gravestone company. Today, our pralines generate more than $30 million in annual sales, making us the leading supplier of pralines on the planet! The oldest candy store in Savannah, River Street Sweets is still family owned and operated by Jennifer and Tim. Just down the street, Stan “The Candy Man” operates Savannah’s Candy Kitchen, the largest candy store in the south since 1990.
With a combined history of 100 years of candy making experience, the Strickland family has made the south synonymous with gourmet southern sweets. Whether it be our World Famous Pralines®, saltwater taffy, crunchy, hand stretched peanut brittle or homemade pecan pies, our made-from-scratch southern delicacies are known worldwide. Our guests have always loved the nostalgic experience of watching candy makers dip pralines onto giant marble slabs; stir glazed pecans in huge copper kettles; and see our 100-year-old saltwater taffy machine in action. We not only make our sweets in our stores, but also ship them out all over the country, and world, for that matter, throughout the year. The holiday season is our busiest time. In fact, we are one of the United Parcel Service’s biggest shippers in Savannah!
Including the original River Street location, Habersham Village and City Market locations in Savannah, we have stores in Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Atlanta, Nashville, and Maryland, with more on the way. That’s because in 2014, we began to franchise under the merged brand name River Street Sweets • Savannah’s Candy Kitchen. Our first franchise opened in Pooler, Georgia at the Tanger Outlet Mall in 2015, followed by Key West, FL and Lancaster, PA. In 2019 we opened in Greenville, SC and San Antonio, TX, and in 2020, we opened The Battery in Atlanta, GA. We are actively working on opening up new locations including Asbury Park, New Jersey and Orlando, Florida.
Savannah Riverboat Cruises was established in Savannah, Georgia in 1991 under the direction of experienced Captain, Jonathan H. Claughton. Savannah’s antebellum charm, with flowing Spanish moss hanging from stoic live oaks and welcoming shady squares, hearkens back to the days when paddle driven riverboats full of tourists and locals dotted the Savannah River.

Savannah’s Famous Pirates’ House is located on one of the most historic spots in Georgia. It is here that Trustee’s Garden, the first public agricultural experimental garden in America, was located. Around 1753, when Georgia had become firmly established and the need for the experimental garden no longer existed, the site was developed as a residential section. Since Savannah had become a thriving seaport town, one of the first buildings constructed on the former garden site was naturally an inn for visiting sailors.
Situated a scant block from the Savannah River, the inn became a rendezvous for pirates and visiting sailors from the Seven Seas. The building remained intact through the centuries, but lost its spark & had fallen into disuse after World War II.
The property was acquired by the Savannah Gas Company in 1945 and the dilapidated building was slated for demolition. It was saved by Mrs. Mary Hillyer, wife of the president of the company Mr. Hansell Hillyer. Mary, along with some other local ladies, took it upon themselves to restore General Oglethorpe’s vision of Savannah. This meant that our beloved Pirates’ House received it’s first restoration treatment under the magic wand of Mrs. Hillyer. With great imagination, perseverance, and skill she was able to save the building & renovate it into the restaurant it is today.
